Gifty lost her father when she was an infant. Her mother sent her to live with her aunt, who would beat her on her ear and now she cannot hear well from that ear. Her aunt tired of her and sent her to live with another woman who took in abandoned children. That woman sent her to school. Gifty came to the home when she was 11 and was deeply suffering.
